Battleship at our House Cloud tries to make a plan it fails, gets blown to pieces we’re so thankful for the wind in our sails as this trip will teach us that I try to tip my hat when you catch on to my scent and I make your dandelion crowns worth your while tied together by the rules that I’ve bent I wanna get this right with you Just leave a list, I’ll see what I can do Bad blood knows its way around when there’s glass between our bodies but take that partition down ask that pretty boy why he just won’t be naughty drop, drip, drop anchor on the floor battleship slips into your port but when you wash up on that other shore your bed will be one boy short I wanna get this right with you Just leave a list, I’ll see what I can do Well I have got a name that I’m keeping safe in my mouth I held it in reserve for blame so it’s used to catching a ride on the wake of my shout Hey look I made a storm it’s blowing us off course what are we even doing out here at sea? Whatever happened to me? I wanna get this right with you And I’ve got your list, let’s see just what I do
2.
Death 03:01
Death Death will show up on your doorstep one day and when you don’t answer, to the window he’ll go Now not even your mother can save you She’s probably gone by now anyway You got a girl to replace that protection, you did She will take care of you and let you be the boss So hurry up, take her into the bedroom Got one last chance to make yourself believe that she was worth what she cost I will show up on your doorstep one day and when you don’t answer, to the window I’ll go You see, I’ve always liked something about you
3.
Bookkeeper 04:03
Bookkeeper Bookkeeper lend me your chair or whatever it is that keeps you going these days I count down the years for words on my tongue that’d be worth knowing pretty words that speak volumes to me they come few and far between and my lips do cease I’ll say no, I’ll say no, it can’t be Lover come into my room I will be living on the road this spring but we can make our winter warm before I leave you stuck here in this big ridiculous human machine you know I could make you clean I’ll teach you guitar and give you words to sing then you can leave, you can leave here with me Oh how my mouth is dry for sweet elixirs you deny but if you’d let me have my way I’d believe anything you say You can take my songs away but just spare me a few words to say that we’re still okay You know I may come running back to you Thinking it over you have been good to me So whisper your songs in my ear Give me your blessing, I’ll steal your thunder I’ll do anything, you know I can earn my keep I will play this guitar like you have never seen draw a line in the sand and I will shake that fabled hand and for every darkened day and for every night I was away I’ll obey, I’ll obey, I will obey
4.
You wouldn’t have to say another word you made your point, you really drove it home you really hurt me bad Now you wanna go and make things worse What are you gonna do? You know I worry about you you’ve been getting so mad I try to just forget about it Maybe you’ll come back and be my friend when the war within you ends I wonder if it ever crossed your mind the way you are, the things you say and how they got you here You wonder why it never satisfies well have you lived your life in the name of love? or in the grip of fear? I wish you wouldn’t worry so much You don’t see that something so good is going to begin when the war within you ends Whatever happened to your old dream? the one you followed to here before you turned around--I wanted you to stay You say it’s not as easy as it seems Like it wasn’t the first time you tried to run away But you don’t have to feel so guilty about it we can forget the fate that I assigned you and how wrong I have been when the war within you ends
5.
Last Night on the Town You’re staring at my watch again, don’t you fall asleep our tired eyes are mountainsides mine just aren’t as steep I’ll stay awake and try to make the climb while you are counting sheep stay awake and figure out why you’re so hard to keep Go live it up with your old friends I won’t make a sound I know you’ve got it in you, baby to get one more down And with every sip may you forget it’s our last night on the town yeah, with every sip may you forget it’s my last night in this town Now you’re stepping toward that exit sign it’s hard to see your face well get out of my crowd get up here on my stage ‘cause we have got some songs to sing before it gets too late yeah we have got some songs to sing before I go away
6.
Halfway 04:07
Halfway You bury your face love, you lay in the dark give up and roll over, you kick at the stars you pray on your knees when the world’s got you beat but halfway is no way to get back on your feet One final journey, you spoke of too soon that sugar will send you halfway to the moon you say you’ll just have a little, it’s pretty weak stuff but halfway is no way to give something up A family I knew well lived in a big house but the man met another when they went out of town Who would he think of when he’d lay in her bed? Halfway is no way to love who you wed Halfway, halfway As long as I’m here I’ll be headed somewhere And I don’t wanna end up halfway The kid who’s so worried just wants to feel safe he stays in his room, everyone stays away and though he’s never bothered, no one sees his light no way but halfway has ever felt right Halfway, halfway As long as I’m here I’ll be headed somewhere And I don’t wanna end up halfway

Them and Us 03:43

One Night on my Mind My black and white memory, you are golden now Sweeter you’ve grown with each hour on the vine See the wind in her hair, hear that song on the air If I was ungrateful, I was out of my mind You know this heart can be so demanding And all of it’s biddings you oblige and though you surrender your sharpest thorn That I may hold tight for all time All that you get is one night on my mind Hey darkest shadow, what are you doing here? The hour is late and I’m turning in If you’re looking for a fight you won’t find it tonight it’s been long, long, long day and I know where you’ve been Your voice--so thunderous, like a slamming door I guess you won this time but tomorrow’s light will burn into this night and I’ll swear from now on you are gone so all that you get is one night on my mind Sweet revelation I thought you were done with me I keep getting lost under stars you align now I don’t understand why you’re taking my hand but I’ll try not to let go this time So you’re ready to take on this great big world? And you hope I’ll be there by your side? But even if I were brave like before no one cares anymore No, all that you get is one night on my mind
10.
Feather 03:56
Feather I let a songbird into the house my shadow wasn’t big enough to scare her out slipped a feather into my pocket I rarely dip it in ink pull it down from my cap and I sing I let a whirlwind carry my name back on the ground it was one of those days and though I miss you something awful I will keep my word not to come down no, you come to me It’s not easy, it’s not impossible when the weight of your heart gets carried away say so long, say so long just let it go In a dream we burn down the wood and fly straighter than arrows for good and to all our old captors you wave a feather and they’re gone but what happens when we wake up?

The Things We’ve Seen I run around in the same circle that first bore me my doubt the paradox of a life spent trying to figure itself out and these eyes become rubies when I can no longer rest all the while kids battle o’er the roots of their flesh when I’m waiting for everybody to get out of my way I remember those times with my love wishing those days would outnumber nights shameful and long forgive me my yesterdays and grant me a song I don’t go around fixing collars though I may boast quietly too ashamed to admit most of my friends embarrass me So I stop believing that around here I’ll find the light that they lack so here’s your goddamn piece of fruit I’d like my ignorance back When I’m waiting for everybody to get out of my way I remember those times with my love wishing those days would outnumber nights shameful and long forgive me my yesterdays and grant me a song I can make you smile if you make up for what I don’t got ‘cause to live on, you must live for another or at least give it a shot so I will make dinner and you’ll be my best friend like our love will block the segue that leads my life to its end You always sing about the devil how you’ve been doing his chores but if you’d really ever seen evil you’d know it’s just like a war you walk away with your bandage and all the things you have seen and when they ask you what really happened you won’t be able to speak
