the paradox of a life spent trying to figure itself out
and these eyes become rubies

all the while kids battle o’er the roots of their flesh

when I’m waiting for everybody to get out of my way
I remember those times with my love
wishing those days would outnumber
nights shameful and long

I don’t go around fixing collars
though I may boast quietly
too ashamed to admit most of my friends embarrass me
